The cruise included stopping at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Yokosuka, Japan, and steaming through a typhoon.

Bledsoe, in Soldier, Kentucky, from three of the comrades with whom he served from 1901-1904 in Company I of the 27th Infantry Regiment--J. J. Kearns, Lewis Marshall, and Jim Franklin. The letter from Franklin, dated December 4, 1941, mentions "the night we were on guard at the beach at Tucuran" and recalls a soldier who died "after we arrived at Cebu."
