Sarg. Mary Moriarty," as well as images of people named Virgil Rector, Grant Mullins, and "Raymond Grapotte, aged 19."

Most of the letters are from his fiance, Jeanne Schroeder, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. One letter is from his father, Marvin Davis, also in Oshkosh. Another letter is from his sister Donna Davis, of Omro, Wisconsin, and another letter is from his brother William ("Bill") R. Davis, who was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The letter describes the Bremerton's cruise from its departure out of Long Beach, California, on July 14, 1955, to its arrival at Okinawa. The cruise included stopping at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Yokosuka, Japan, and steaming through a typhoon.

Bledsoe, in Soldier, Kentucky, from three of the comrades with whom he served from 1901-1904 in Company I of the 27th Infantry Regiment--J. J. Kearns, Lewis Marshall, and Jim Franklin. The letter from Franklin, dated December 4, 1941, mentions "the night we were on guard at the beach at Tucuran" and recalls a soldier who died "after we arrived at Cebu."
