Scope and Contents One journal written by various members of the Appalachian Mountain Club as they traveled through Mexico on a thirty-three-day excursion between February and March 1939. The journal entries are chronologically bound, approximately one page in length each, typewritten, and initialed by the club member writing for the day. The first page includes a list of names and addresses for the members on the excursion.

Overview Charles Hope (1763-1851) was a judge and politician in Edinburgh, Scotland. This collection contains a cover letter and memorandum that Hope wrote to another Scottish politician, Henry Dundas, on October 22, 1804, proposing wartime strategies for British commercial advancement in Latin America. The memorandum is titled "Hints as to the Conduct of this Country, in the event of a Spanish war."

Entertainment in Mexico Broadsides

Scope and Contents This collection of two broadsides published by Antonio Vanegas Arroyo and illustrated by José Guadalupe Posada demonstrates entertainment papers that were circulated in Mexico at the turn of the nineteenth century. One broadside advertises a reenactment of the Third Battle of Puebla and one illustrated broadside, partially written in verse, reports on a sensational murder by a woman. Both broadsides are written in Spanish.

Mexican Government Actions in 1828-1830 Broadsides

Scope and Contents This collection of two broadsides contains printings of governmental actions taken in Mexico after gaining independence and before the Mexican War. The first broadside, published in 1828, is a Finance Commission update to taxes in Tamaulipas. The second broadside, printed in 1830, is a decree repealing restrictions placed upon Spaniards in Mexico. Both broadsides were printed by Samuel Bangs and are written in Spanish.

Meat Regulations in 1818 Mexico Broadside

Scope and Contents One broadside published in 1818, by Viceroy Juan José Ruiz de Apodaca y Eliza in Mexico City, Mexico, legislating the transportation, sale, and slaughter of meat by individuals and meat markets. The broadside dictates the animals and sexes that could be slaughtered, the weight and price of meat for sale, and sanitation practices for meat markets. There are two signatures and two ink stamps near the bottom of the broadside with some wear throughout the broadside.
