Edward Bressie Vaughan Papers

Overview Papers of both Edward Bressie Vaughan, Sr. and Jr. The majority of the papers are requisitions, receipts, Quartermaster stores, etc. from August through Novemeber 1862 during the Kentucky Campaign signed by or sent to Lieutenant Edward Bressie Vaughan, Jr.. Other papers include both Vaughan, Sr.'s and Jr.'s personal and business correspondence from 1832 through 1869. The collection also contains E.B. Vaughan, Sr.'s Oath of Allegiance (dated 30 June 1865) to the United Stated.

Abstract This collection consists of entries taken from Nolley's “Album of Friendship,” copies of outgoings letter to her brother, Edward Dromgoole Nolly and sister Martha Ann Otey, extracts from her theme book, and a letter from a friend, Annie Glascock (?). The Somervilles eventually chose Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The letters contain comments on traveling companions, places seen, business conditions, and etc.

Abstract This collection consists of ledgers containing: Land Commission correspondence; applications for land in Mississippi and Alabama territories; copies of land grants from England, France and Spain to residents in Mobile; marriage contracts; wills; and plats of grants, 1783-1813. Ledger 17 contains diary entries by James E. Henderson of Co. C, 12th Iowa Infantry, who was assistant provost marshall in Alabama in 1865. Several ledgers have been indexed by names.
