Scope and Contents

The papers include Sprott’s University examinations and report sheets during his freshman, sophomore, and junior years in Latin, French, German, and English grammar. Also provided are University of Alabama commencement programs for the years 1895 to 1897 and various programs for campus events for the same period.

Some examinations and programs had been collected into a scrapbook.

Biographical / Historical

Samuel Henry Sprott, Jr. attended the University of Alabama from 1893 to 1898. He was actively involved in many campus and inter-institutional organizations. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, the YMCA, and the Philomatic Society. He also served as the treasurer and secretary of the Gulf States Intercollegiate Oratorical Association, as the First Vice-President of the freshman and sophomore classes, Senior Captain, Class Speaker during his sophomore, junior, and senior years, and as editor-in-chief of the Crimson-White in 1898.
