Letters, 1971
This collection consists of letters and photographs (including autographs) from the governors of the 50 United States in response to a letter written on March 14, 1971, by Floyd R. Dunn requesting information about each state’s government (number of state senators and representatives), state bird, flower and tree, and the population according to the United States 1970 Census. There is also an introductory letter by Dunn.

This collection contains information about the Pickett and Williams families of Bullock County, Alabama, as well as the 15th Alabama Infantry Division. There are also rough notes from a 1980 interview with Florence Odessa Whittington, notes from a collection of letters (possibly mss_2757), and a list of Confederate markers in the Midway, Alabama cemetery. It also includes a membership application for the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Letter
Contains one letter written from Handy to Columbia Records executive George Avakian and Handy’s answers to a questionnaire sent by Avakian. The collection does not include the original questionnaire, but his answers and his letter, which discusses Bessie Smith, Emmett Till, and Mississippi’s influence on his song “Yellow Dog Blues,” clearly show that Avakian had asked questions relating to race and music.

Harry Belafonte and SNCC circular regarding Sammy Younge
A circular letter written and distributed by Harry Belafonte and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. It describes the January 3, 1966, murder of Sammy Younge, Jr., an African American student and member of SNCC, who was killed by a gas station attendant in Tuskegee, Alabama, for protesting the segregated restrooms at the gas station. The circular asks for donations to continue its work for Civil Rights.
Selma marches broadsides
Broadsides were published in support of the Civil Rights marches in Selma, Alabama. One is for a march and rally in New York City in support of a Selma march, and the other broadside is a call for President Lyndon Johnson to use federal troops to protect the marchers in Selma.
