Biographical/Historical note

The National States Rights Party was founded in 1958 and led by J.B. Stoner and Edward Reed Fields. It was based on a platform of anti-Semitism and opposition to the Civil Rights movement. The Party ran its own candidates in the 1960 and 1964 presidential elections, but they received few votes. The Party declined in the 1980s after Stoner was convicted in a bombing case, and Fields became more involved in the Ku Klux Klan. By 1987 it had ceased to exist.
