Abstract Democratic congressman John J. Sparkman (1899-1985) represented the state of Alabama in the House of Representatives from 1937-1946 and in the Senate from 1946-January 3, 1979. He was known for his support of the Tennessee Valley Authority, military personnel, and space exploration, and served on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, the Small Business Committee, and the Banking Committee.
