Overview Papers submitted by students for credit in the Blount Program's seminar "Marking Graves: Self and Society in Death" and ANT 444/544 "Anthropology and Cemeteries" at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The papers consider how individuals and society are reflected in burial practices and the differences between Anglo-American and African-American graveyards. The papers may examine burial patterns, customs, ornamentation, or simply be lists of interments.
