The Sheldon C. Treat Civil War Correspondence contains twenty-two letters and a short biographical document. Four letters were written by Treat before he enlisted as a Union soldier in in the US Civil War in August 1861. Fourteen letters by Treat cover his time serving in the war, and include his descriptions of the Battle of Pea Ridge (Arkansas, 1862), the Battle of Fort Hindman (Arkansas, 1863), and other events.
