Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection contains photocopies of the family history of an early northwest Alabama family, one member of whom became mayor of Birmingham in the 1890s. The collection includes personal recollections of the Union Army raid on Tuscaloosa led by John T. Croxton in April 1865, as well as a sketch of the same for a proposed movie script with notes by grandson Alexander Van Hoose Davies. There are also photocopies of memorials of various Van Hoose men, and newspaper clippings.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection contains two receipts from Huntsville, Alabama, for groceries in 1916 and 1917. The receipts are possibly for the same person, but because the receipt from W.L. Wall Grocery Co. is made out to J.W. Smith (dated 17 February 1916) and the receipt from F.& O. Gudenrath Wholesale Groceries and Produce is made out to John Smith (dated 13 June 1917), it would be impossible to verify.
