Hays of Jackson, Tennessee, to Andrew Jackson at the Hermitage, Tennessee, announcing Hays' acceptance of Christianity, thanks to the ministry of the Reverend Daniel Baker, a prominent early nineteenth century revivalist who, earlier, was pastor of the Second Church in Washington, DC, where Andrew Jackson attended church while President. Hays was the son of Colonel Robert Hays and Jane Donelson Hays, sister of Rachel Donelson Jackson, and he called Andrew Jackson "uncle."...
