Scope and Contents The collection contains the framed remains of a Civil War era boot or shoe. A typed note is framed with the remains and states that the sole was recovered from a known Union Army trash pit in Nashville, Tennessee, and explains that the Union Army cut up old boots and shoes before throwing them away so that the enemy would not be able to use them.
