Scope and Contents From the Collection: This commonplace book, compiled by Tennessee resident Lavinia Hetherling Leinau, contains literary quotations, poems, and handwritten notes from friends. The notebook is embossed with Leinau's name and contains several printed engravings. Leinau began compiling the commonplace book in 1831, when she was a young woman living in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
