Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection contains the diary of Mobile, Alabama, river pilot Edward R. Norville, with entries dated 1873 to 1891, with the bulk of the entries dated between 1880 and 1891. Many of the entries are brief and written in a list format, recording the names of ships that Norville piloted or towed, weather conditions along the river, and Norville's personal expenses.
