Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection contains the papers of a freeborn African American family who lived in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama, in the latter half of the nineteenth century and through the mid-1960s. The major part of the collection are the diaries, correspondence, and scrapbooks of Jennie B. Scott, along with those of her sister Mrs. R. C. Lee (Rosa, also known as Doll). There are also papers from Jennie's younger daughter Ruth Teresa Dokes of Tuskegee Institute, Alabama.
