The collection contains four letters. The first, dated 8 November 1834, to Harvey Chase of Fall River, Massachusetts, by J. B. Toulmin of the commission firm Toulmin, Hazard and Company of Mobile, Alabama, included market news and discusses selling cotton to Chase (it is written on a printed market report of the firm dated November 5).
