Biographical / Historical
The battle of Guadalcanal was one the major battles during the World War II. After the devastation of Pearl Harbor, the United States had gathered enough forces, and with help from allies, to begin attack on Japanese forces. They chose the island of Guadalcanal because the Japanese had built an air base on the island as the part of their plan for invasion of New Guinea. The Guadalcanal campaign began on August 7, 1942 by landing of American troops on the island. The campaign lasted six months that have seen intense air combat, seven naval battles, and numerous battles ashore. After devastating losses, Japanese began to evacuate the island of Guadalcanal at the begging of February 1943, and on February 9 allied troops have declared Guadalcanal secure.
