This collection contains seventy-one color slides taken by Marjorie L. Smith in and around Hayneville, Lowndes County, Alabama. Slides depict various stages of cotton production, from picking the cotton by hand to processing in the cotton gin and getting the cotton bales ready for the market. The collection also contains images of African Americans working in the field and images of an African American church in Hayneville. Some show the growth stages of a cotton plant, from seeds to matured cotton.
