Regimental history
Item — Volume: W0111.01
Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This notebook contains a handwritten roster and regimental history documenting the service of Company I of the Fourth Virginia Volunteer Infantry. Also known as the "Liberty Hall Volunteers," this regiment consisted of a group of students from Washington College (later Washington and Lee University) in Virginia. The history and roster are written on the first twenty-four pages of the notebook; the rest of the book is blank. The roster is approximately five pages long and lists the names, ages, and hometowns of the regiment's members. It also provides information about the death, capture, and transfer of members. The regimental history, presumably written by Captain James J. White after the war, describes the First Battle of Bull Run. The notebook also contains three newspaper clippings related to the death of Captain Hugh A. White, who died at the Second Battle of Bull Run.
