Scope and Contents

One photographic album of 88 photographs depicting daily life and scenery of various cities throughout Mexico and California during the late 18th century. The photographs were taken by multiple persons at various times, some are captioned. Some of the scenes shown are of busy streets and markets in Zacatecas, water carriers in Guanajuato, Mexico City street scenes, El Paso in Texas, and Los Angeles, California.

Scope and Contents

This photograph depicts a vibrant scene from a cotton market in Montgomery, Alabama, likely taken in the early 1900s. It includes mule drawn wagons with African American drivers and white buyers. Both Court Square and Montgomery Street are visible, as well as several shops, which include the Captiol Clothing Store, Jacob's Pharmacy, E.C. Andrew Drugs, S.H. Kress and Co. (a five and ten cent store), and clothing and shoe shops owned by Alex Rice and Charles Hann.
