Abstract This collection pertains principally the World War One service of Dr. Drayton Doherty (1893-1969) of Selma, Alabama. It contains more than sixty letters from Doherty to his parents during his service in France, in which he served as a medical officer, chiefly with the British Second Army. Other items in the collection include some official correspondence relative to Doherty’s military service, a miscellany of personal papers, and three photographs.

Overview Diary written by First Sergeant Charles Ellis of the 96th Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. The diary contains daily notes concerning regimental duty in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1865.
