Scope and Contents Docketed claim No. 155 from State Auditor James Tupper affirming the event of Martin’s death and approving the award of $4,000. There is also a notation that the amount was reduced to $1,800 under the Act of December 1862. These legal documents were used in a claim against the Confederate government after the death of Martin, an enslaved person.
