Scope and Contents The correspondence collected in this series begins in January 1871 and continues through March 1872. The collected correspondence is from De Benneville Randolph Keim to family members, personal friends, and foreign and domestic government officials. Included in the correspondents is President Ulysses Grant and United States Consul General George F. Seward.

Scope and Contents The dispatches and report included in the series is official drafts that De Benneville Randolph Keim collected during consults surveys and assessments. The retained manuscript copies would be published officially as “A Report to the Hon. George S. Boutwell, Secretary of the Treasury, Upon the Condition of the Consular Service of the United States of America” in 1872.
