This collection contains materials on floriculture in Alabama, including papers on roses and on old English boxwoods, a plant inventory of Fendall Hall, Eufaula, Alabama, and indexes of plants mentioned in books on Alabama and Georgia plantations and homes, plus photos, garden plans, and written descriptions from Stitikus's traveling exhibit, "Alabama : Her People, Houses and Gardens," (1986).

Scope and Contents note From the Collection: The collection contains typed transcripts of a description of prison life by Alonzo Van Vlack, a Union soldier captured near Athens, Alabama, on September 24, 1864. Besides the five typed copies of letters to his parents in Michigan, written from the parole camp near Vicksburg, there is also one handwritten letter dated December 16, 1864, while he was a prisoner of war at Cahaba Prison in Dallas County, Alabama.
