The collection contains a letter from Brandon, Governor of Mississippi, to Alabama Governor John Murphy regarding an unsettled financial transaction between the two states.
Letter
The collection contains a letter dated 4 October 1864, from W.H.C. Price, Superintendent of the C.S.A. War Department, Nitre and Mining District 10, requesting that P.J. Weaver furnish the government with "the dirt under the houses on your plantation" for "the manufacture of Nitre" and also the wood and water needed to process it and five "negro men" and a wagon and team for sixty days. Price states that "the necessity" for Weaver's cooperation is "urgent."

Letters to his wife, Ellen G. Sommerville, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia while Somerville was on two trips to Alabama and Mississippi, looking for a place to settle. The Somervilles eventually chose Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The letters contain comments on traveling companions, places seen, business conditions, and etc.
