Biographical / Historical
Alston Fitts, son of James H. and Mary E. Fitts, was born on 10 March 1867 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama (A.B., 1886; LL.B, 1887) and Columbia College, New York (M.D., 1895). He married Mary Shiras on 30 October 1901 and they had three children: (1) James Harris; (2) Mary Shiras; and (3) Alston II. Although he was 50 at the out break of World War I, Fitts volunteered for the Army Medical Corps, and served overseas.
He died 29 May 1950, in Tuscaloosa.
