This collection consists of the ledger of the Elliott and Carl Mill which records days and hours worked by employees as well as accounts and orders for lumber. The label on the front of the ledger says “Elliot and Carl Mill Time Book Commencing Feby 1, 1888.”

Biographical / Historical
Joseph Carl was born in Germany in 1844. He immigrated to the United States and settled in Bayou le Batre, Mobile County, Alabama sometime before 1888. The 1880 Census lists his occupation as “saw logging.”
