Scope and Contents
This collection consists of materials like; newspaper clippings, personal and business correspondence, and an account book. This also contains a personal letter, to Dawson, signed by the 22nd president of the United States, Grover Cleveland. There is also the original appointment certificate, when Dawson was appointed Commissioner of Education in 1886, it is also signed by Grover Cleveland.

Biographical / Historical
Nathaniel Henry Rhodes Dawson was a Selma, Ala., lawyer and politician, Confederate officer, and United States commissioner of education. He was also a member of the Alabama legislature and served as Speaker of the House.
