Scope and Contents
The collection contains two late nineteenth century volumes by R. D. Spratt dealing with the history, legends, and language of the Choctaw Indians. While a significant portion of the handwritten ledger deals with the language and vocabulary of the Choctaw, the typewritten bound volume deals mainly with the history and not as much vocabulary. It does contain several Choctaw translations of Bible verses and stories as well as several photographs. The collection also contains a letter from Wade Coleman, Jr. of Livingston, Alabama, to Mary Gorgas of Tuscaloosa, Alabama (the envelope is pasted on one of the back endpapers), five photographs of unidentified Indians and places, as well as two separate typewritten pages of information about the Choctaw.
