Biographical / Historical
William Temple Hatchett Chandler, was born on 24 January 1881 in Montgomery, Alabama. Member of the Fort Morgan, Alabama, Historical Commission.
Chandler was the custodian at Fort Morgan from the time of World War II until 1957, as well as secretary of the Fort Morgan Historical Commission. In his positions as custodian and secretary, he was largely responsible for the development of the park at Fort Morgan and for its popularity as an historical attraction. He wrote at least two books about Fort Morgan: Little Gems of Fort Morgan (1954), and The Red Dragon Flag (1965).
He died on 23 August 1967 in Foley, Baldwin County, Alabama, and is buried just outside the gates of Fort Morgan Park on the peninsula guarding the entrance into Mobile Bay, approximately 20 miles west of Gulf Shores, Alabama.
