Scope and Contents note

This collection contains materials relating to Blanford's work as a Lay Reader of the Episcopal Church. One item is a bound prayerbook containing typescript copies of prayers of dedication and healing, his “Prayer List,” which lists recipients of prayers and their afflictions, and a list of prayer meetings from 19 November 1920 to 8 February 1922. The collection also contains two fliers for the Healing Ministry, two admission tickets for the “Christian Healing Mission” conducted by Blanford at St. Michael’s Church, Anniston, and a certification by Episcopalian Bishop of Alabama Charles Minnigerode Beckwith (b. 1854) licensing Blanford as Lay Reader at St. Michael’s “with privilege of speaking,” dated 15 October 1920.

Biographical/Historical note

After evidently becoming involved in Episcopalian Church activities as a Lay Reader in Anniston, Alabama, Blanford operated the “Healing Ministry” at 2515 Ensley Avenue, Ensley, during the early 1920s.
