Walter P. Billings newspaper clippings

No requestable containers
Scope and Contents note
This collection consists of several newspaper clippings relating to the trial of several white men for the murder of Walter P. Billings, an African-America resident of Sumter County, Alabama, on 1 August 1874, and also a lengthy jury charge by U.S. Curcuit Court Judge Ballard decrying violence used by the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist organizations against African-Americans. The clippings were evidently pasted to a series of sheets of paper, but most of them have fallen off, so the organization is no longer clear.
