This collection of fifteen photographs depicts the Civil War scenes from Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia. Photographs were taken by George Norman Bernard.

Bibliography

George Norman Bernard was an American photographer. He was known for his photographs from the Civil War era. He was born in Coventry, Connecticut on December 23, 1819. He started his business in New York State in 1843. He was among the first photographers to use the daguerreotype in The United States. He was documenting fortifications and bridges as the official army photographer of the Military Division of the Mississippi. In his book, published in 1866, Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign, he showed the devastation of the war. After the war, he operated photographic studios in Ohio, Charleston, South Carolina, and Chicago. He passed away on February 4, 1909.
