Biographical/Historical note
Jasper Luther Beeson was born August 31, 1867, at Keener, Alabama, to William Baker Beeson (1829-1924) and Mary Ann Frances Sibert (1838-1905). He received an AB (1889) and AM (1890) from The University of Alabama, and PhD from Johns Hopkins University (1893). He married Anna Leola Selman (1868-1962) in 1894. Beeson was a physics instructor at The University of Alabama; chemist with the Geological Survey of Alabama, 1888-1889; research chemist at the Louisiana Experiment Station; and a professor of chemistry at Louisiana School of Sugar, 1893-1897. He also served as professor, dean, and president at Georgia State College for Women, 1897-1934. He died on January 10, 1943.
