Scope and Contents
One sixteen page draft letter written by General Philip Schuyler to be sent to General George Washington. The final version sent to George Washington in the George Washington Papers at the Library of Congress is dated May 28, 1780. The text of this draft closely resembles that of the final version. A note on the backside of the final page, in a second handwriting, remarks on the provenance of the letter. Schuyler replies to a request from George Washington for his opinion on strategy during the American Revolutionary War.

Biographical / Historical
Philip Schuyler was born on November 20, 1733, in Albany, New York. He was a New York politician serving in several state level roles throughout his life. He served in the Continental Congress during the American Revolution and as a major general of the Continental Army. George Washington was Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Washington would go on to be the first President of the United States of America.
