Content Description
One print titled, “A [North West by North] View of Charles Town from on board the Bristol Commodore Sir Peter Parker Kn,,t &c. &c. taken in Five Fathom / Hole the day after the Attack upon Fort Sulivan by the Commodore & his Squadron, which Action continued 9 hours & 40 minutes.”, documents an attempt by the British to capture the city of Charleston in the Battle of Sullivan’s Island in 1776, but American forces were able to defend the port city. The print is dedicated to Commodore Sir Peter Parker (1721-1811).

Biographical / Historical
William Faden (1749 – 1836) was an English cartographer and publisher who supplied maps to the crown and parliament. The American Revolution provided a subject for many maps and prints for a curious audience. Faden published over 350 maps, atlases, and military plans in his career.
