Scope and Contents
The Isaac D. Landis collection contains 31 items including casualty reports, rosters, equipment return forms and other military documentation concerning the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry. It also has a farewell address given on July 26, 1865, two copies of a portrait of Landis taken in 1865, and some other papers. Created between November 1864 and September 1865, this collection captures information about the final years of the United States Civil War in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

Biographical / Historical
Isaac D. Landis (1841-1929) was a United States Civil War veteran and Union soldier enlisted in the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry in 1861 as a corporal to be promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant by 1864. He was honorably discharged in July 1865, with his company. He then returned to his work as a silversmith and jeweler in Pennsylvania.
