Biographical / Historical
Rio de Janeiro prior to the 1900s was largely limited in size to one neighborhood on the mouth of Guanabara Bay. With development escalating in the 1920s, the city expanded in area and in popularity as it started to cement itself as a global destination. The natural environment surrounding Rio de Janeiro combined with newly constructed luxury hotels, entertainment centers, and historic architecture brought more permanent citizens and tourists to the city.
