Biographical / Historical

La Tigra was a cattle ranch located near Olavarría in the Buenos Aires province of Argentina. The ranch was founded in 1873 by Joaquin Pourtalé (1831-1886), a member of an influential immigrant family from the French Pyrenees. Pourtalé was a well-established member of the community, serving as an alternate Justice of the Peace and alternate on the municipal commission of Olavarría. La Tigra installed Olavarría’s first wire fence in 1881.
