Content Description

The collection contains items found in the 1907 time capsule that was opened in 2010 and then were on display in Smith Hall until September 2018. The time cpsule was created shortly after May 28, 1907, when the cornerstone of Smith Hall was laid. Items include: 1907 commencement programs; appeals to alumni for donations; photographs; newspapers; and a variety of artifacts.

Biographical / Historical

The time capsule for the University of Alabama's Smith Hall was created by members of the University faculty and alumni, and other members of the Tuscaloosa community, shortly after the laying of the cornerstone for the Eugene Allen Smith Hall. The cornerstone for Smith Hall was laid as part of the 1907 commencement activities on May 28, 1907.
