Biographical/Historical note

Bachman, of South Carolina, served at Charleston Harbor and was given command of Company H of the infantry battalion of Hampton's Legion, afterward converted to Light Artillery and known as Bachman's Battery. The battery served in the Army of Northern Virginia until assigned to South Carolina shortly before the Confederacy's surrender in April 1865.
