Content Description
The collection contains two scrapbooks kept by Guyton as well as a colorized portrait of Guyton as a child. The scrapbooks have several of Guyton’s report cards and graduation certificates as well as clippings, programs (one autographed by Isaac Stern), and souvenirs. There is also a 1949 2¢ postal reimbursement that Guyton had framed as a joke.

Biographical / Historical
Edna Claire Harper, daughter of William F. and Hester Harper of Montgomery, Alabama, was born on July 5, 1927. She attended public schools in Montgomery graduating from Sidney Lanier High School in 1944. She studied violin in high school under Fanny Marks Seibels and was concertmaster of the Fanny Marks Seibels Orchestra for two years. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Alabama, having received the first scholarship ever awarded for violin. At the University, she studied under Ottokar Cadek. She graduated in 1948.
Sometime around 1953, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, to play with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. She married Robert David Guyton in 1953. The couple had two children, Stephen Robert and Gigi. Claire died on November 6, 1998.
