The collection consists of two diaries kept by Eliza Ann McCants (1817-1844) in the antebellum South. Volume One contains 160 pages and covers the years 1840-1842. Volume Two contains 136 pages and covers the years 1843-1844.

Biographical / Historical
Eliza Ann McCants was born around 1817 in South Carolina to Ann Barbara McCants (1794-1873) and John McCants (d. 1819). Around the age of seventeen, she moved with her mother to Houston County, Georgia, near the town of Fort Valley. She died on September 11, 1844, at the age of twenty-seven.
