This unbound, seventy-one page typescript of Tentative Register of Robert E. Biographical / Historical

Military historian Lee A. Wallace Jr. was born on May 21, 1922, in Norfolk, Virginia. Wallace joined the military after graduating from high school, initially enlisting in the North Carolina National Guard. From 1940-1946, Wallace served as a private in Battery C, 113th Field Artillery Regiment, 30th Infantry Division.

After completing his military service, Wallace attended college, graduating with a BA in history from William and Mary University in 1949 and a MA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1950. After graduation, Wallace worked as a historian for the National Park Service. After his retirement in 1977, Wallace wrote several books related to Civil War topics, including A Guide to Virginia Military Organizations, 1861-1865. He died on October 9, 1997, in Arlington, Virginia.
