Biographical / Historical
Ann Jordan Farm, an estate of nearly 5,000 acres in Coosa County, Alabama, was a gift to the University of Alabama by Sidney A. Mitchell, son of Sidney Z. Mitchell. It is named for Sidney Z. Mitchell's grandmother and includes the Jordan family home. Sidney Z. Mitchell himself was born in Dadeville, Alabama, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1866. In 1885 he was appointed organizer of electric light plants for the Edison Company in the northwest and he subsequently served as president of Electric Bond & Share Company from 1905 to 1933.
