Biographical / Historical
In 1940 the U. S. War Department authorized the establishment of Air Corps centers for the initial training of recruits; the first of which was established in Missouri in the summer of 1940. Since most enlistees moved into some sort of specialized technical training, the centers were placed under the jurisdiction of the Air Corps Technical Training Command. The Army Air Forces Training Command was made inactive on July 1, 1946.
