Biographical / Historical

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly recommended the adoption and implementation of the Partition Plan for Mandatory Palestine. Situated at the southeastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea, it is bordered by Lebanon to the north, Syria to the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip) on the east and southwest, and Egypt and the Red Sea to the south. Since 1949, Israel has endured several wars and its occupation of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem is considered the world's longest military occupation in modern times.
