Biographical / Historical

Doris Katherine Turner, daughter of George Adam and Salome Grob Turner, was born on December 19, 1918, in Cullman, Alabama. She attended Huntington College in Montgomery, Alabama, was a 1939 graduate of The University of Alabama, and served as personal secretary to UA presidents Denny and Foster. In 1940, she married Maurice Frederick Reichel, whom she had met at UA. Reichel was a Marine and was killed in action during the Battle of Tarawa Atoll in 1943. Doris then moved to New York and attended Columbia University, specializing in communications. She worked for RFD America and was the programming associate for the Quiz Kids Radio Show.

In 1950, Doris married Reuben A. "Pete" Osten. In 1957, Doris, Pete, and daughter Katherine left California for Europe where Pete worked for Dupont. They moved to Dupont's headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. They moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1995, to enjoy their retirement. Pete died in 2006, and Doris died in 2010.
