The collection contains the diary with a typed transcription, kept by Edna Lee Holladay during her college days at the University of Alabama, from December 31,1936 through December 30, 1939. The diary tells of her efforts to study, her class and exam schedules, and her dilemmas about which young man she likes.

Biographical / Historical
Edna Lee Holladay, daughter of Edward Daniel and Camma Gabrielle Whitehead Holladay, was born on October 16, 1915, in Jefferson County, Alabama, but grew up in Dunavant, Alabama, a small community in Shelby County. She attended the University of Alabama, majoring in political science. She graduated on May 24, 1938, and had completed one year of law school by the time she left the University.
She married Augustus Bruce Cunningham on December 26, 1938. Augustus (Gus) graduated with his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in August 1937 and his law degree on May 1939. The couple had two children, Edna and Bruce.
Edna Lee Cunningham died on December 23, 1973, at age 58 from cancer.
