Scope and Contents
The collection includes a twenty-three page autobiography of John Lawrence Hollis who worked for Alabama Power in the first half of the twentieth century. It also includes a photograph of Hollis taken in 1960, another photograph of Hollis on a pocket CD-R, his business card, and a photocopy of a photograph of Mitchell Dam employees in 1940.

Biographical / Historical
John Lawrence Hollis, son of Hilliard Eugene and Cynthia Crump Hollis, was born on May 4, 1894, in Talladega County, Alabama. He left home at the age of sixteen to work in the electrical power industry, primarily with the Alabama Power Company. Over the course of his career he was "loaned out" to other power companies across the southeast United States, including Georgia Power, South Carolina Power, and Gulf Power companies.
He married Elizabeth ("Bessie") Wiley Beavers sometime prior to the United States' entry into World War I as he stated he was married on his draft registration. The couple had three daughters: Sarah R., Geraldine H., and Bety B.
Hollis died in Wetumpka, Alabama, on August 15, 1994.
